Manifold without flaps. GM did make a 2.0 CDTI on certain Insignia and Astra/zafira models without swirl flaps and one of those manifolds was probably the best idea. It would fit straight-on avoiding the block fouling problems and with the actuator motor still bolted-on and connected-up, there would be no EML.
Hi, just joined the forum and said hello in the introductions section. I've got a 2007 320d M Sport and have just had the turbo rebuilt and fitted, then it was running really rough and low on power so I just did the swirl flaps - turns out you don't blank them on the N47 so I just took them out...
Jan 23, 2011 · Hi folks, as you know Y25DT (opel only), as well as most of the BMW diesels around 2000-2003, is known for it's swirl flaps problem. after a while they tend to break and follow the route of the air manifold-valves-cylinder-valves-turbo and cause severe and $$ damage. they help making a turbulent air-flow at low loads and idle and therefore better combustion in these conditions, but the ...
I removed the swirl flaps in my BMW E39 525D Auto Touring. Contrary to what I had been led to expect there was no apparent change in part-throttle behaviour I cleaned the EGR and inlet manifold while I was at it. The result for my next trip (to the Kent coast) was 48 mpg cruising at 80 mph.
I deleted the swirl flaps before they got sucked into the engine which did lower the engine power below 1500 rpm, it was soon rectified though by bypassing the EGR valve. Handling wise the car is great in the dry although the standard damping rates are a bit soft at the front on bumpy roads.

Would I buy one if I had $20k to spend? Nope. But if you can stretch to $30k, that will buy you a nice example.
The fact that BMW stopped fitting swirl flaps to most vehicles post 2010 suggests that even the manufacturers have realised that swirl flaps offer more negatives than positives. What does it cost?
Just to be clear. The part No.2 is fitted to the swirl flaps, it is the lever that turns the swirl flap rod. Clip 3 holds them on. You will need to remove the two motors to get access to these. Don't know if there is room to remove the clips and extract these levers from the swirl flap housing with the swirl flaps fitted. Fingers crossed there is.
